The petals of the flower are edible and this plant has been used for centuries in culinary and medicinal ways. During the American Civil War, Marigold was used on open wounds because it's been shown to disinfect and accelerate healing.

Carotenoid is the substance that gives the Marigold/Calendula the yellow to orange red colour. Calendula also contains flavonoid substance which will act as an anti-inflammatory both when eaten as a flower, or used as oil on your skin.

The petals of the flower are recognized today for their healing effect and are often used in skincare. Marigold will help soothe acne, sunburn, blackheads, eczema and dermatitis.
