What is Acai?

Acai is a fruit from the Acai palm that grows in Brazil and Trinidad. The acai fruit is often called acai berry, because the fruit looks like a berry the size of a small grape. It is dark purple to black in colour and tastes a bit like a cross between blackberries and dark chocolate.

Acai fruit is often called a superfood due to the high nutrient content of antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. Acai contains a large amount of of vitamin C and is also a source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3 and E, calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper.

This is truly a super fruit packed with nutrition that is great for both body and skin.

What does Acai help with?

Because acai has such a high content of antioxidants, acai protects the skin from pollution and free radicals which in turn will strengthen the skin and reduce the effects of premature ageing of the skin. Acai is widely used in anti-ageing products because it protects the skin so effectively from oxidation.

Acai helps sensitive skin due to its high content of vitamins C and B which are known to have a protective and soothing effect.

Acai contains both omega-3, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids which revive the appearance of dry, chapped skin. When your skin has what it needs from these fatty acids, it will appear smooth and soft with a fresh glow. If you lack fatty acids in the skin, it dries out and the skin can look grey and dull.

What is special about the Acai we use?

The acai berries are harvested by hand in Brazil, where the acai palm is found in its natural surroundings. We use the whole acai fruit in our Acai Hydra Cream. We ferment the whole acai berry in a probiotic mixture to get all the nutrients, then the extracts become easier for the skin to absorb. We also use a cold-pressed organically certified acai oil of very high quality. In this way we get to utilize the whole fruit during production and nothing is wasted.
